Syllabus
Theory
The WSET Level 1 Spirits course offers a clear introduction to the world of spirits. During the program, we explore the main categories, how they are produced and the key factors that influence their style and aromatic profile. You will learn about the fundamental stages of production, including fermentation, distillation and post-distillation operations. The course also covers the world's main spirit categories, such as whisky, rum, tequila, vodka, gin and liqueurs.
Tasting
During the course, students will taste a selection of spirits representative of the world's main categories. The educator will guide participants through a simple and structured tasting approach, designed to help identify the key aromas and flavors of each product. Tasting does not form part of the exam at this level.
Exam
The WSET Level 1 Spirits exam consists of 30 multiple choice questions. Students must correctly answer at least 70% to pass. If unsuccessful, the student may retake the exam at a future sitting.
