Panama Wine Academy was born from a passion for wine and education. We wish to contribute to the growth of the wine sector in Panama, offering courses for both professionals and passionate consumers.
The courses we offer have a perfect balance between theory and tasting. Our students not only gain a deep knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties and winemaking techniques, but also develop practical skills to taste and evaluate wines.
PWA is a sister company of the Amsterdam Wine Academy which, having taught hundreds of WSET courses, has a wide and proven track record.
Best friends since childhood, Dieter Ploeger and Wouter Aalst both started their professional careers in the world of gastronomy. Dieter in the kitchen and Wouter as a host. Wouter opened his first restaurant in 2003 and is currently the owner and host of Paskamer, acclaimed as the best wine bar in Holland in 2023. Additionally, he founded the Amsterdam Wine Academy together with his wife Fransje. Dieter chose a different career and after coming to Panama for a visit in 2005, he stayed indefinitely after falling in love with the country and then with his wife Stephany with whom he has two children. However, the passion for gastronomy never left and, inspired by the fascinating world of wine, the Panama Wine Academy project was born.
Our academy prides itself on offering high-quality courses from recognized international viticultural institutions such as WSET, ensuring that our students receive the most complete and up-to-date wine education available.
It is our mission to expand the wine knowledge of our students. We convey our passion and knowledge with a contagious enthusiasm for all who wish to start or continue their journey in the world of wine.
Co-founder and WSET Certified Educator. With an MBA in international business and over 15 years in Panama, Dieter combines his academic background with a deep passion for wine. Graduated with merit from DipWSET, he is also a French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar.
Head lecturer at Amsterdam Wine Academy and PWA partner. Owner of Paskamer, named best wine bar in the Netherlands in 2023. Brings extensive experience in hospitality and wine education. Currently a student at the Institute of Masters of Wine.
Operations director at Amsterdam Wine Academy and PWA partner. Manages all organization, administration, and student communications with great attention to detail.
