Syllabus
Theory
The WSET Level 2 Spirits course offers a complete overview of the world of spirits. During the program, we explore the main categories and analyze how raw materials, fermentation, distillation and maturation influence their style and quality. You will learn about the key stages of production and how producer decisions impact aroma, flavor, texture and final character. The world's main categories are also studied — including whisky, rum, tequila, mezcal, vodka, gin and liqueurs — as well as their labeling and classification systems.
Tasting
Although formal blind tasting is not part of the exam at this level, the WSET systematic approach receives special attention during the course. With the educator's guidance, students will taste a wide selection of spirits representative of the world's main categories. At Panama Wine Academy, the selection is carefully curated to represent different styles and quality levels.
Exam
The WSET Level 2 Spirits exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions. To pass, at least 55% of questions must be answered correctly. If unsuccessful, the student may retake the exam at future sittings.
