Syllabus
Theory
The WSET Level 2 course gives you a solid overview of the world of wine. In classes you learn about the main grape varieties, different wine styles and the regions where grapes are grown. You also learn about grape growing, including climatic influences and winemaking. We teach you how certain choices in the winery influence the flavor profiles of the wines we taste. We offer 24 hours of classes and recommend students review study materials at home before class, with a minimum of 1 hour per week and no less than 11 hours of self-study in total.
Tasting
Although blind tasting is not yet part of the exam at this level, the WSET systematic tasting method receives great attention. With the guidance of your certified instructor, you will become accustomed to this analytical way of evaluating wines. In total, we taste more than 45 labels. To understand what we taste and the origin of certain flavors, we connect the theory from the book with what we find in the glass. At Panama Wine Academy you will taste excellent and extraordinary wines, but we also explore options from the more affordable segment, essential for learning to evaluate quality at all market levels.
Exam
The WSET Level 2 wine exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions. At least 28 must be answered correctly to pass. Blind wine tasting is not yet part of the exam at this level. The opportunity to retake the exam is offered at least twice a year.
